The Sand Wedding Ceremonies.

A wedding sand ceremony is very popular in California since sand is, well, abundant.  Two vessels of sand are poured together either into a third keepsake vessel, or into the wind to represent the coming together of your lives.  Visit our links pages for the wedding vendors who can provide the sand and vessels, or simply use the California beach sand and wind.  Three sample sand wedding ceremony vows are:

Sample Sand Ceremony - 1
"Today, this relationship is symbolized through the pouring of these two individual containers of sand one, representing you BRIDE and all that you were, all that you are, and all that you will ever be, and the other representing you, GROOM, and all that you were and all that you are, and all that you will ever be. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be."

Sample Sand Ceremony - 2
"BRIDE and GROOM, today you join your separate lives together. The two separate bottles of sand symbolize your separate lives, separate families and separate sets of friends. They represent all that you are and all that you'll ever be as an individual. They also represent your lives before today. As these two containers of sand are poured into the third container, the individual containers of sand will no longer exist, but will be joined together as one. Just as these grains of sand can never be separated and poured again into the individual containers, so will your marriage be."

Sample Sand Ceremony - 3
"Today, BRIDE and GROOM, have chosen to commemorate their marriage through the celebration of the Sand Ceremony. This ceremony symbolizes the inseparable union of BRIDE and GROOM into a new and eternal marital relationship. Bride and Groom will simultaneously pour separate containers of sand into a common vessel. Each grain of sand in their separate containers represents a unique and separate moment, decision, feeling or event that helped shaped Bride and Groom into the separate and unique individuals that they are today. As they pour their separate containers of sand into a common vessel, those separate and independent individuals will cease to exist. Instead they will merge into a loving and supportive marital community. BRIDE and GROOM, just as the grains of sand can never be separated into their individual containers again, so will your marriage be."

Sample Sand Ceremony - 4
"OFFICIANT: Please note this empty glass. Glass, itself, is made from sand and the sands of time have come together, melting into one piece to make this vessel. The sands of time should remind us all of our eternal love and our mortality. Today BRIDE and GROOM have chosen to represent their love to each other in a special sand ceremony. Please BRIDE and GROOM, take your separate glass of sand and alternate the pouring of sand into this joining vessel and united, repeat after me: You are my love for eternity. I blend with you. My heart is like these grains of sands, merging with yours. I am yours. You are mine. We are together forever like the sand, like the wind. We are one."

Here are some vows that you can use for a Unity Sand Ceremony involving a blended family.

I, [name of person making the vow] promise to bond together during times of hardship, tears and laughter.  I take you [insert individual names of the new family members] to be my new family and do solemnly swear to do my part to love, honor, respect and support you through good times and bad. Just as these grains of sand intermingle to form a new unit of substance, today in the presence of God, family and friends we form our new family.

Here are some vows that you can use for a Unity Sand Ceremony involving a blended family.

From this moment, I [insert name], take you, [insert name of family member] as my [insert family role e.g. dad, sister]. Individually these granules of sand stand tiny and miniscule but together they create a backdrop which is treasured by many. This sand is much like our new family, individually we exist in our own essence but when put together we create a beautiful canvas of color. Together as a family we can survive anything. Together we will stand stronger than we would alone and although our road may sometimes be bumpy, together we will create a family with a bond so strong, nothing can break it.

Here are some vows that you can use for a Unity Sand Ceremony involving a blended family.

I, [insert name of bride/groom], take you [insert name of spouse-to-be] to be my wife/husband. I promise to love you, honor you and cherish you in good times and in bad. Not only do I promise to be a good and faithful spouse to you, but I pledge my love and honor [insert children’s names too].

Vow from father/mother to the children
[Insert children’s names], I promise to be a patient and loving father/mother to you. I promise to always care for you, support you and protect you from any harm. This intermingling of sand represents the blending of the new family we have formed here today. Just as it would be almost impossible to separate each individual grain of sand, so shall it be with our family.

Children’s vow to parents
I, [insert name of child], promise to love, honor, and respect our new family unit. I promise to care for you, support you and encourage you in good times and in bad. This intermingling of sand represents the blending of the new family we have formed here today. Just as it would be almost impossible to separate each individual grain of sand, so shall it be with our family.
